In the 13th minute, Roger Suárez ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. August Hoffmanns was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 18th minute of the match Munat Tayka got a corner. Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Pacho Abechuco ran over to the corner to take the kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Ruben Da Silva heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. August Hoffmanns showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David Herstad in the 22nd minute of the match. Aron Oks made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hugo Haupt in the 25th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hugo Haupt got free with Aron Oks in the 25th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aron Oks took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maximilian Henning, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Mesut Özil came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Rot-Weiss-Essen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mesut Özil couldn't finish the play. August Hoffmanns showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Herstad, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. 31 minutes into the match, Roger Suárez notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Rot-Weiss-Essen's August Hoffmanns. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Aron Oks made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anestis Kotsopoulos in the 61st minute of play. 64 minutes into the match, Munat Tayka's goal looked a bit too open when Anestis Kotsopoulos came free, but Aron Oks reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Munat Tayka had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
