Villa Gordiani's Iker Casillas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tiger De Hond in the 5th minute of play. 11 minutes into the match, Villa Gordiani's goal looked a bit too open when Mauro Primeiro came free, but Iker Casillas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mauro Primeiro in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iker Casillas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 18 minutes into the match, Poli Timisoara's goal looked a bit too open when Natã de Salles came free, but Ovidiu Adrian reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Villa Gordiani's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Otang Irawan in the 19th minute. Villa Gordiani's Fabrizio Canzano was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ovidiu Adrian in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. When Philippe Albert fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Villa Gordiani's protests and gave Philippe Albert a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Poli Timisoara booed when Villa Gordiani was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Philippe Albert didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 25 minutes of play, Poli Timisoara's Mauro Primeiro made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Iker Casillas was left in no man's land by his defense there! Iker Casillas made a fantastic save in the 28th minute, when Sascha Kulovitz sent off a good shot on target. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by Villa Gordiani's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Horst-Peter Unterberger was slow to take the kick. During this time Poli Timisoara's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ove Bergman in the 35th minute of play forced Poli Timisoara's goalkeeper Ovidiu Adrian to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 36th minute Villa Gordiani were awarded a corner. Otang Irawan went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Villa Gordiani's Philippe Albert to fire away a dangerous shot which Ovidiu Adrian despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Natã de Salles took the ball and in the 40 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ovidiu Adrian. Ovidiu Adrian dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
The wind increased when Ove Bergman made the kick off in the second half. Ovidiu Adrian made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ove Bergman in the 52nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bartosz Erland in the 54th minute of play forced Villa Gordiani's goalkeeper Iker Casillas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 58 played minutes, Poli Timisoara's Horst-Peter Unterberger shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Iker Casillas came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Poli Timisoara reached it. After 59 played minutes Poli Timisoara got a freekick which was hit by Tiger De Hond. If Mauro Primeiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Iker Casillas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mauro Primeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Poli Timisoara's Mauro Primeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Bartosz Erland sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 72 minutes into the match, Sascha Kulovitz notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Villa Gordiani's Iker Casillas. Iker Casillas was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 74 played minutes Poli Timisoara got a freekick which was hit by Çağdaş Yuvakuran. If Çağdaş Yuvakuran had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 99th minute Mauro Primeiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iker Casillas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Poli Timisoara fully deserved thier win.
