The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's Pipis Karapatakis sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gualter Roriz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Delta FS's zone, Deivid de Sena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gualter Roriz came out of the goal and Deivid de Sena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jardel Sanches showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Álvaro Vilaverde, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Álvaro Vilaverde in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jardel Sanches saved Grêmio FBPA from getting behind. Jardel Sanches took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Napoleon Tylenda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Napoleon Tylenda's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jardel Sanches was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. 22 minutes into the match, Pipis Karapatakis dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Gualter Roriz, 1-0. In the 24th minute, Amedeo De Matteis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Delta FS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pipis Karapatakis in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gualter Roriz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by Delta FS's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Alberto Estevon was slow to take the kick. During this time Grêmio FBPA's players had a chance to rest. After a defensive mix-up in Delta FS's zone, Pipis Karapatakis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gualter Roriz came out of the goal and Pipis Karapatakis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pipis Karapatakis got free with Gualter Roriz in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 37th minute, Napoleon Tylenda left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Delta FS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. The Grêmio FBPA players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Delta FS were winning 1-2.

In the 55th minute of the match, Marcus Odin got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jardel Sanches was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Marcus Odin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jardel Sanches having to interfere. In the 66th match minute, Delta FS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Walter Samuel to maneuver through the defense. In the 67th minute Pipis Karapatakis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gualter Roriz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jardel Sanches made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Napoleon Tylenda in the 72nd minute of play. In the 81stth minute of the game Napoleon Tylenda who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Grêmio FBPA's Jardel Sanches was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 82 played minutes Grêmio FBPA got a freekick which was hit by Kaká Rot. Grêmio FBPA's Ted Hoogenkamp was substituted for Filiph Biörling. The supporters of Delta FS booed when Grêmio FBPA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kaká Rot didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pipis Karapatakis spun around in front of the goal 86 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Delta FS's goal. Pipis Karapatakis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ted Hoogenkamp struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Gualter Roriz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio FBPA. In the 95th minute, Walter Samuel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Grêmio FBPA supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Delta FS's performance. The match ended with a win for Delta FS.
