The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4thth minute of the game Steffen Gimlinge who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Calenzano's Donato Balestra was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arturo Di Matteo in the 6th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arnoud de Pelsmakere saved Club Universidad Nacional from getting behind. 11 minutes into the match, Arturo Di Matteo notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Club Universidad Nacional's Arnoud de Pelsmakere. Arnoud de Pelsmakere was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpected shot in the 17th minute by Yaniusky Pardo got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Arnoud de Pelsmakere took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arturo Di Matteo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ahmed Sinan charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ahmed Sinan the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 32nd minute of the game. One of Calenzano:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Club Universidad Nacional:s goal. The referee gave Club Universidad Nacional a penalty, 34 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Steffen Gimlinge, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Calenzano's Donato Balestra. 1-1. Steffen Gimlinge received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Donato Balestra tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 42 minutes into the game, Steffen Gimlinge was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Club Universidad Nacional's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Calenzano the free kick. Steffen Gimlinge kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Ahmed Sinan got a throw-in 44 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Ahmed Sinan. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arturo Di Matteo in the 47th minute of play forced Club Universidad Nacional's goalkeeper Arnoud de Pelsmakere to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Donato Balestra made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. After 70 played minutes Club Universidad Nacional got a freekick which was hit by Steffen Gimlinge. Calenzano made a substitution. Pierrot Leenpoels replaced Arturo Di Matteo. Club Universidad Nacional made a substitution. Mehat Kovaçi replaced Steffen Gimlinge. Calenzano made a substitution. Alessandro Giocondo replaced Yaniusky Pardo. In the 73rdth minute of the game Pierrot Leenpoels who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Club Universidad Nacional's Arnoud de Pelsmakere was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. A collision led to Calenzano getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Ahmed Sinan hit a great ball. 86 minutes into the match, Calenzano's goalkeeper Donato Balestra had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mehat Kovaçi. Donato Balestra made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mehat Kovaçi in the 91st minute. When Pierrot Leenpoels came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Calenzano fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pierrot Leenpoels couldn't finish the play. Club Universidad Nacional's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
