Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) Almiro Setúbal made a fantastic save in the 5th minute, when Pierre Le Saint sent off a good shot on target. Felix Poggi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Guerreiro in the 11th minute of play. Antonin Laruelle took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Almiro Setúbal. Almiro Setúbal dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Gustave Marcilly hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. A collision led to U21 France getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Steve Pierrard hit a great ball. Almiro Setúbal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Léon Cailleaux in the 20th minute of play. Silvano Furtado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Felix Poggi having to interfere. Zeferino Corte-Real recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Almiro Setúbal stood somewhat misplaced when Momo Boumedienne came free in front of goal and shot 2-0 to the left of him in the 36 minute. Arnaud Clément sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Felix Poggi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from José Guerreiro in the 44th minute of the match. The corner led U21 Portugal's Silvano Furtado to fire away a dangerous shot which Felix Poggi despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball.
U21 France's Noël Dominique was substituted for Pierre Le Saint. 53 minutes into the match, Léon Cailleaux notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of U21 Portugal's Almiro Setúbal. Almiro Setúbal was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 57 minutes into the game, Homero Carvalho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Portugal's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 France the free kick. After a rather tough play, U21 Portugal's Homero Carvalho got a free kick in the 57th minute. Léon Cailleaux might have been able to make a better finish in the 58th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Almiro Setúbal. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Léon Cailleaux ran back to his position shaking his head. Almiro Setúbal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Léon Cailleaux, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. U21 France made a substitution. Alain Dennemont replaced Arnaud Clément. U21 Portugal's Almiro Setúbal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Momo Boumedienne in the 65th minute of play. Felix Poggi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Guerreiro in the 67th minute of play. U21 Portugal's Gaspar Mascarenhas was substituted for Zeferino Corte-Real. Antonin Laruelle kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. U21 France's Steve Pierrard quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Homero Carvalho, made in the 76th minute of the game. The supporters of U21 Portugal booed when U21 France was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kevin Mac Allister didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldo Pinheiro in the 80th minute of play forced U21 France's goalkeeper Felix Poggi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Momo Boumedienne's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Almiro Setúbal read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 83rd minute of play. Jean-Marc Kazmierczak blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Almiro Setúbal having to make a save. U21 Portugal's Almiro Setúbal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jean-Marc Kazmierczak in the 87th minute of play. U21 Portugal's attentive Homero Carvalho managed to snatch the ball when Kevin Mac Allister made a throw-in in the 89th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ronaldo Pinheiro in the 92nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Felix Poggi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With an all-out effort, U21 Portugal's Felix Poggi threw himself towards the right post 95 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ronaldo Pinheiro, which otherwise would have been placed in the net.
U21 France's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
