Niculae Ailenei yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, David Brătescu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dani Hernández came out of the goal and David Brătescu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Venezuela's Dani Hernández played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciprian Toma in the 12th minute of play. 14 minutes into the game, Romania's Ciprian Toma nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dani Hernández made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Through an outstanding action, after 22 minutes, Niculae Ailenei successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 23rd minute of the match Venezuela got a corner. Romania's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ignazio Corrales ran over to the corner to take the kick. Ignazio Corrales made a great header on Venezuela's corner, it was just that Romania's Niculae Ailenei managed to reach the ball for a save. 34 minutes into the match, Stelian Murgu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dani Hernández. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Stelian Murgu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 39th minute Venezuela were awarded a corner. Despite this Niculae Ailenei quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Romania's Grigore Dărăscu was substituted for Ştefan Iovan. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Izel Ronaldo was the one to do the kick off. Niculae Ailenei took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Izel Ronaldo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 55th minute, Valentin Enceanu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 56th minute of the match Ignazio Corrales shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Niculae Ailenei showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Romania's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Romania was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stelian Murgu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Venezuela's Karim Morientes was substituted for Izel Ronaldo. Eduardo Camavinga made in the 76th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Cordarius Hornilla. David Brătescu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 89th minute of the match, but Dani Hernández made a huge save. Venezuela were awarded a corner in the 94th minute after Romania's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ignazio Corrales took the corner. Ignazio Corrales made a great header on Venezuela's corner, it was just that Romania's Niculae Ailenei managed to reach the ball for a save. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Romania walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
