In the 18th minute Iakovos Papafotopoulos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miltos Kyriazis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thanasis Vamvoukas in the 23rd minute of play forced AEK S.C's goalkeeper Miltos Kyriazis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fanis Torosidis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. A collision led to Atletico de Madrid getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Nikos Papapanagiotou hit a great ball. Sakis Manousos's late challenge caught a Atletico de Madrid's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sakis Manousos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 45th minute, Sakis Manousos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Iakovos Papafotopoulos made the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute, Miltos Argyrakos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nikolas Karkamanis was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Nikolas Karkamanis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sakis Manousos in the 61st minute of play. Anastasios Lazos charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Anastasios Lazos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Anastasios Lazos hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. After 69 minutes, Nikos Papapanagiotou mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Atletico de Madrid and the AEK S.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 69th match minute, Atletico de Madrid was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nikos Papapanagiotou to maneuver through the defense. Iakovos Papafotopoulos could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Miltos Kyriazis made a huge save. Atletico de Madrid's Nikolas Karkamanis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miltos Argyrakos in the 81st minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. AEK S.C had won after a very even match.
