Tommi Ooms was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fred Lara in the 16th minute of play forced Selebi-Phikwe's goalkeeper Tommi Ooms to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 21st minute Jack Saunders shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tommi Ooms saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22nd match minute, Selebi-Phikwe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tibo Rondou to maneuver through the defense. Zhao Le Sen took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 23rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Tommi Ooms. Selebi-Phikwe's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fred Lara in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tommi Ooms saved Selebi-Phikwe from getting behind. Selebi-Phikwe's Tommi Ooms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fred Lara in the 29th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nereo Precioso in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tommi Ooms saved Selebi-Phikwe from getting behind. Tommi Ooms showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nereo Precioso in the 32nd minute of the match. 34 minutes into the match, Selebi-Phikwe's goal looked a bit too open when Yusuf Ziya Cerit came free, but Tommi Ooms reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tommi Ooms showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jack Saunders, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Tommi Ooms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fred Lara in the 37th minute of play. After some careless play in the Selebi-Phikwe defense, Jack Saunders kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tommi Ooms. The Selebi-Phikwe fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tommi Ooms should have stopped the shot. 46 minutes into the match, Selebi-Phikwe's goal looked a bit too open when Yusuf Ziya Cerit came free, but Tommi Ooms reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half FC Lugano were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fred Lara was the one to do the kick off. In the 50th minute, Jack Saunders left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. In the 56th minute, FC Lugano's Nereo Precioso dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-5. FC Lugano made a substitution. If Yusuf Ziya Cerit had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. FC Lugano's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
