The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Vale in the 5th minute of play forced Irreal Madrid's goalkeeper Edmundo Mineiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 5 minutes into the match, Irreal Madrid's goal looked a bit too open when David Vale came free, but Edmundo Mineiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edmundo Mineiro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronaldo Pirani's shot from short distance in the 7th minute. Nelsinho Marinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Edmundo Mineiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edmundo Mineiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nelson Xavier, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Gustavo Leão in the 22nd minute of play forced Palestra do Interior's goalkeeper Antônio Carlos Cavalcante to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 24th minute David Vale shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edmundo Mineiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Irreal Madrid's defense didn't have a chance, in the 29th minute, when Serafim Simão scored to the left of an out of position Edmundo Mineiro, making the score, 2-0. Edmundo Mineiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Serafim Simão in the 32nd minute of the match. Serafim Simão received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Edmundo Mineiro came out and tried to block the shot, but Serafim Simão slotted it home off the left post making it 4-0 in the 37th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

After some careless play in the Irreal Madrid defense, David Vale kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Edmundo Mineiro. The Irreal Madrid fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Edmundo Mineiro should have stopped the shot. A collision led to Palestra do Interior getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. David Vale hit a great ball. In the 58th minute Ronaldo Pirani shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edmundo Mineiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 62nd minute, Nelsinho Marinho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Palestra do Interior fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 6-0. Palestra do Interior's Dinei Brito was substituted for Ronaldo Pirani. Palestra do Interior made a substitution. Delfim Quintal replaced David Vale. A collision led to Irreal Madrid getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Dito Monteiro hit a great ball. After 70 played minutes, Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Edmundo Mineiro came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Palestra do Interior reached it. In the 71st minute Delfim Quintal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edmundo Mineiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luiz Gustavo Leão, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Edmundo Mineiro came out of the goal in the 86th minute to try and stop a shot by Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho. But to his dismay, Nelsinho Marinho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 8-0. In the 89th minute, Nelsinho Marinho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Palestra do Interior fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 9-0. 94 minutes into the game, Palestra do Interior's Pau Lin-Carlos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Edmundo Mineiro made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 10-0. When the referee ended the match the Palestra do Interior players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
