Erkan Fostiropoulos kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. Simeon Plank showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Louis Makris in the 5th minute of the match. Sandu Alexa kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. After 7 played minutes, RO Army V55's Fanis Katsiaounis shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Simeon Plank came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in RO Army V55 reached it. After 9 minutes, Daniel Prodan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the RO Army V55 and the Rot-Weiss-Essen players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 9 played minutes RO Army V55 got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Prodan. In the 11th minute, Louis Makris left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The RO Army V55 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 19th minute, Maurizio Brink ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Helmuth Duckadam was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Simeon Plank played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Louis Makris in the 22nd minute of play. After 28 minutes, Manos Komaitis mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the RO Army V55 and the Rot-Weiss-Essen players grew even worse after the yellow card. RO Army V55's Daniel Prodan got his second yellow card of the match in the 35th minute. The referee ordered Daniel Prodan off the ground. Daniel Prodan kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. After 39 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Hannes Kapell. 42 minutes into the match, Sandu Alexa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Helmuth Duckadam. RO Army V55's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Sandu Alexa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Helmuth Duckadam made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Björn Mokros in the 46th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Erkan Fostiropoulos made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Sandu Alexa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rot-Weiss-Essen's supporters rose to their feet, but Sandu Alexa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Helmuth Duckadam breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 58th minute, Sandu Alexa made a precise shot to the right of Helmuth Duckadam. RO Army V55's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. In the 65th minute, Erkan Fostiropoulos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Helmuth Duckadam showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sandu Alexa, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. In the 70th minute Björn Mokros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Helmuth Duckadam saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Florian Hagen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Simeon Plank made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fanis Katsiaounis in the 75th minute. Helmuth Duckadam showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maurizio Brink, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Fanis Katsiaounis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simeon Plank having to interfere. Rot-Weiss-Essen's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
