Ümit Karan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Michel Hendrickx tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Isaias Matas kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Brugge United's goalkeeper Vítor Baia, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Isaias Matas made a kick off. Laurențiu Roşculeţ recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Ümit Karan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ümit Karan in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Michel Hendrickx saved Olavarria FC from getting behind. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Laurențiu Roşculeţ in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Michel Hendrickx prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 61st minute, Isaias Matas reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Vítor Baia. The goal made the score 0-1. Olavarria FC's Ervigio Ojeda was substituted for Isaias Matas. Michel Hendrickx made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ümit Karan in the 66th minute of play. Ervigio Ojeda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vítor Baia having to interfere. Vítor Baia made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ervigio Ojeda in the 69th minute. 92 minutes into the game, Olavarria FC's Ervigio Ojeda nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Vítor Baia made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Brugge United lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
