It was Luisito James who took care of the corner kick. 9 minutes into the game, Wilfred Pelletier threw the ball into play from the sideline. Santos FC's Vern Pierre quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. The audience was convinced that Lanny Gilmore's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Shaki Conn was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tyron Velasquez in the 29th minute of play forced ForestFire's goalkeeper Shaki Conn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
