A collision led to Leon Sport Club getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Giovanni Massa hit a great ball. With an all-out effort, Curiphila Eagles's Clóvis Reis threw himself towards the right post 25 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Douglas Gerber, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. With a little luck, Leon Sport Club's Clóvis Reis got control of the ball when Erik Vihonský tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Ingvar Kollberg came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Leon Sport Club fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ingvar Kollberg couldn't finish the play. Leon Sport Club's Clóvis Reis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Erik Vihonský in the 51st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lúcio Sá in the 52nd minute of play forced Leon Sport Club's goalkeeper Clóvis Reis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
