The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joaquin Xacintu in the 4th minute of play forced São Paulo F.C.'s goalkeeper Tiago Godoi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tiago Godoi came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Grentino FC's Bo Edström. But to his dismay, Bo Edström quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Tiago Godoi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gualter Sampaio in the 29th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, São Paulo F.C.'s Attila Keserű got a free kick in the 30th minute. 33 minutes into the match, São Paulo F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Joaquin Xacintu came free, but Tiago Godoi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 34 minutes into the match, Vito Travassos had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Falcão Sampaio. Grentino FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vito Travassos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. The crowd rose to their feet as São Paulo F.C.'s Wanderson Melo slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Falcão Sampaio. That made the score 2-1 after 37 minutes of play. 41 minutes into the game, São Paulo F.C.'s Yaya Sow nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Falcão Sampaio made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. In the 45th minute Bo Edström shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tiago Godoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 48th match minute, Grentino FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gualter Sampaio to maneuver through the defense. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dirk Snabl to strike the kick off in the second half. Falcão Sampaio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yaya Sow, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Dirk Snabl charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dirk Snabl the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. If Yaya Sow had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 61stth minute of the game Dirk Snabl who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Grentino FC's Falcão Sampaio was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Falcão Sampaio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dirk Snabl, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the São Paulo F.C. defense, Amadeu de Alcântara kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tiago Godoi. The São Paulo F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tiago Godoi should have stopped the shot. São Paulo F.C. made a substitution. Ronaldo Crispín replaced Dirk Snabl. Tiago Godoi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gualter Sampaio, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. Falcão Sampaio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Yaya Sow, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 80 minutes into the game, Vito Travassos cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-2. The Grentino FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-3. The referee ignored São Paulo F.C.'s protests and gave Geovani Coutinho a yellow card for diving instead. Geovani Coutinho hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. São Paulo F.C. had won after a very even match.
