The audience thought a goal was coming when Nestor Paraibano got free with Matias Carlomagno in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 23rd minute Placido Segio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 30th minute, Nestor Paraibano made a precise shot to the right of Matias Carlomagno. San Lorenzo's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Severo Santos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dida Taffarel having to interfere. Marquês de Herval's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Moussa Kabre in the 41st minute. Matias Carlomagno made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Martins in the 43rd minute of play. 45 minutes into the match, San Lorenzo's goalkeeper Matias Carlomagno had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nestor Paraibano. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The audience was convinced that Nestor Paraibano's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Matias Carlomagno was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. Matias Carlomagno came out of the goal in the 68th minute to try and stop a shot by Marquês de Herval's German Cano. But to his dismay, German Cano quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. After 73 minutes of play, Marquês de Herval's Alfredo Martins made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Matias Carlomagno was left in no man's land by his defense there! Matias Carlomagno made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lorenzo Mendebal in the 76th minute of play. The supporters of San Lorenzo booed when Marquês de Herval was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Selami Rezan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Matias Carlomagno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from German Cano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dida Taffarel was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 92nd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Fausto Estebano. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kara Melo in the 94th minute of play forced Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 95 minutes, Martin Lleir mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the San Lorenzo and the Marquês de Herval players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, San Lorenzo's Martin Lleir got a free kick in the 95th minute. When German Cano came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the Marquês de Herval fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that German Cano couldn't finish the play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Marquês de Herval fully deserved thier win.
