After 2 played minutes Paysandu got a freekick which was hit by Bruno Gerber. Silverio Cordaro kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. In the 8th minute, Doni Fonseca left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Paysandu fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After having played for 12 minutes, Bruno Leme managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paysandu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bruno Leme was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 14 minutes into the match, Doni Fonseca notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of &La vieja Guardia&'s Enrique Garikoitz. Enrique Garikoitz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some careless play in the &La vieja Guardia& defense, Váldson da Mata kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Enrique Garikoitz. The &La vieja Guardia& fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Enrique Garikoitz should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, Paysandu's Dráuzio Coutinho got a free kick in the 20th minute. In the 23rd minute Doni Fonseca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Enrique Garikoitz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Enrique Garikoitz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Doni Fonseca went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-4 was the resulting score. After 29 played minutes &La vieja Guardia& got a freekick which was hit by Feliberto Leheren. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Váldson da Mata managed to get in a good position for a shot. Paysandu's supporters rose to their feet, but Váldson da Mata was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Enrique Garikoitz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 39th minute, Doni Fonseca ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Enrique Garikoitz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-5. In the 42nd minute, Váldson da Mata left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Paysandu fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-6. After the first half Paysandu were leading 0-7. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Godfredo Hever was the one to do the kick off. After 53 played minutes &La vieja Guardia& got a freekick which was hit by Justo Esiquio. After 54 minutes, Bruno Leme mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Paysandu and the &La vieja Guardia& players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Paysandu's Bruno Leme got a free kick in the 54th minute. When Godfredo Hever came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the &La vieja Guardia& fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Godfredo Hever couldn't finish the play. When the match clock showed 60 minutes, the score became 0-8 when Doni Fonseca sped through &La vieja Guardia&'s defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Enrique Garikoitz. 69 minutes into the match, Doni Fonseca notched a goal, 0-9, to the right of &La vieja Guardia&'s Enrique Garikoitz. Enrique Garikoitz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. During the 71st minute of the match Feliberto Leheren completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Feliberto Leheren a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Feliberto Leheren hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Doni Fonseca got free with Enrique Garikoitz in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Doni Fonseca scored 0-10 in the 75th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Enrique Garikoitz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Váldson da Mata fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enrique Garikoitz having to interfere. With a little luck, &La vieja Guardia&'s Enrique Garikoitz got control of the ball when Doni Fonseca tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 84th minute, Doni Fonseca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Enrique Garikoitz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Doni Fonseca in the 87th minute. Váldson da Mata fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enrique Garikoitz having to interfere. When the final whistle sounded Paysandu left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than &La vieja Guardia&.
