With a little luck, SC Braga's Antonio Adán got control of the ball when Afonso Cardozo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Andres van der Sar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zigmantas Gimbutas in the 15th minute of the match. Antonio Adán made an important save on a dangerous shot by Afonso Cardozo in the 18th minute. Nilton Montenegro made in the 24th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Afonso Cardozo however managed to control. In the 28th minute, Zigmantas Gimbutas left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SC Braga fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. If Zigmantas Gimbutas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zigmantas Gimbutas might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Andres van der Sar. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zigmantas Gimbutas ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 38th minute Zigmantas Gimbutas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andres van der Sar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jon-Egil Sætre kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Antonio Adán made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wei Guang Xing in the 41st minute of play. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind MONTANHA's goalkeeper Andres van der Sar, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to MONTANHA getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Afonso Cardozo hit a great ball. Andres van der Sar came out of the goal in the 45th minute to try and stop a shot by SC Braga's Quintino Carvalhais. But to his dismay, Quintino Carvalhais quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Zigmantas Gimbutas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Zigmantas Gimbutas notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of MONTANHA's Andres van der Sar. Andres van der Sar was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. SC Braga made a substitution. Antonio Cieri replaced Quintino Carvalhais. SC Braga's Stig-Åke Mattsson was substituted for Zigmantas Gimbutas. Antonio Adán showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Afonso Cardozo in the 71st minute of the match. In the 72nd minute of the match MONTANHA got a corner. SC Braga's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Afonso Cardozo ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 72ndth minute of the game Murillo Martins who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but SC Braga's Antonio Adán was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Stig-Åke Mattsson managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Braga's supporters rose to their feet, but Stig-Åke Mattsson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Andres van der Sar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 77th minute Afonso Cardozo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Antonio Adán saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gonçalo Matos made in the 80th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by SC Braga's Lu Xun Lei. Stig-Åke Mattsson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Andres van der Sar read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 83rd minute of play. After having played for 85 minutes, Stig-Åke Mattsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Braga's supporters crossed their fingers, but Stig-Åke Mattsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Andres van der Sar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stig-Åke Mattsson in the 87th minute of play. SC Braga's Antonio Adán played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Czeslaw Walec in the 88th minute of play. After 89 played minutes SC Braga got a freekick which was hit by Alberto Malheiro. After a defensive mix-up in SC Braga's zone, Afonso Cardozo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Antonio Adán came out of the goal and Afonso Cardozo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Stig-Åke Mattsson might have been able to make a better finish in the 94th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Andres van der Sar. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Stig-Åke Mattsson ran back to his position shaking his head. The MONTANHA supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching SC Braga's performance. The match ended with a win for SC Braga.
