MONTANHA's Andres van der Sar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bray McJon in the 11th minute of play. 13 minutes had been played when some careless play by MONTANHA's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Wilson Fernandez was slow to take the kick. During this time Montevideo's players had a chance to rest. Gonçalo Matos lost his temper 16 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 15 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for MONTANHA! Andres van der Sar had in the 17thth minute some difficulties stopping Wilson Fernandez's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Ronaldo Medeiros was out of position in the 19 minute of play, and Afonso Cardozo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Andres van der Sar was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 28th minute, Fernandão Recife hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Bray McJon put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Andres van der Sar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Afonso Cardozo in the 51st minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. MONTANHA's Andres van der Sar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bray McJon in the 71st minute of play. The MONTANHA fans' excitement grew in the 73rd match minute when MONTANHA's Afonso Cardozo looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 4-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. The corner led to Montevideo's Fernandão Recife getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. After 84 played minutes Montevideo got a freekick which was hit by Luisito Antequera. Ronaldo Medeiros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Afonso Cardozo, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. In the 86thth minute of the game Afonso Cardozo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 87 minutes into the game, MONTANHA's Nilton Montenegro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ronaldo Medeiros made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-4. In the 91st match minute, MONTANHA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dinei Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. For all the effort they put into the match, the Montevideo players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for MONTANHA.
