An unexpectedly hard shot by Horácio Pereira in the 17th minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Vágner Meirelles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 19th minute, Júlio Eger left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SORRISO E. C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Deivid Vinhas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Carlos Arantes hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. After 55 played minutes, Montevideo's Tadeu Correia shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Valdo Catarinense came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Montevideo reached it. Vágner Meirelles made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Alberto Mendonça sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Montevideo getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Almir de Sena hit a great ball. Vítor Sousa was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 69th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Deivid Vinhas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valdo Catarinense read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. Vágner Meirelles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Horácio Pereira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 78 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Mendonça came free, but Vágner Meirelles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alberto Mendonça got free with Vágner Meirelles in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Júlio Eger in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Vágner Meirelles saved Montevideo from getting behind. Vágner Meirelles made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Alberto Mendonça sent off a good shot on target. After 88 played minutes Montevideo got a freekick which was hit by Almir de Sena. After a defensive mix-up in Montevideo's zone, Vítor Sousa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vágner Meirelles came out of the goal and Vítor Sousa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match was over SORRISO E. C. could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Montevideo throughout the match.
