After 10 played minutes AM United got a freekick which was hit by Elias Novais. A collision led to C. A. Independiente getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Wallace Whatley hit a great ball. Marcelo Ascencio kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. When Damião Quintanilha came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the AM United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damião Quintanilha couldn't finish the play. 19 minutes into the match, AM United's Armindo Viana sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ubaldo Fillol narrowly saved just below the crossbar. C. A. Independiente's Guy Becerra quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Artur Mendes, made in the 21st minute of the game. 30 minutes into the match, AM United's goal looked a bit too open when Sebastián Rambert came free, but Hildeberto Ramalho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hildeberto Ramalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wallace Whatley in the 32nd minute of play. If Sebastián Rambert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcelo Ascencio in the 36th minute of play forced AM United's goalkeeper Hildeberto Ramalho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th minute Sandy Spaulding shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hildeberto Ramalho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hildeberto Ramalho didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Sandy Spaulding went, in the 38th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sandy Spaulding was the one to do the kick off. Jerónimo Leme hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. 53 minutes into the match, C. A. Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when David Carvalhal came free, but Ubaldo Fillol reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sandy Spaulding's late challenge caught a AM United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hildeberto Ramalho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sebastián Rambert, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. 84 minutes into the match, AM United's goalkeeper Hildeberto Ramalho had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sebastián Rambert. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Carvalhal in the 86th minute of play forced C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Ubaldo Fillol to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sebastián Rambert in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hildeberto Ramalho prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 91 played minutes C. A. Independiente got a freekick which was hit by Wallace Whatley. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched C. A. Independiente eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
