Lincoln Grondin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arí Fontes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 40 minutes into the match, Denílson Guedes notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Olympiakos's Lincoln Grondin. Lincoln Grondin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Denílson Guedes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lincoln Grondin having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Alfredão Damião stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When the match had gone on for 52 minutes, Alfredão Damião put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Lincoln Grondin. A collision led to Olympiakos getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Paschal Kerr hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in SC Inter Porto Alegre's zone, Chad Boyd stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Claudinho Abraão came out of the goal and Chad Boyd tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 59th minute, Aloísio Silveira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Claudinho Abraão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wes Calhoun in the 60th minute of the match. Tião Custódio hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Wes Calhoun sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Doriva Leão shot from long distance in the 69th minute, but Lincoln Grondin was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. In the 69th match minute, SC Inter Porto Alegre was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aloísio Silveira to maneuver through the defense. The SC Inter Porto Alegre supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing SC Inter Porto Alegre would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
