Gelu Chivu's late challenge caught a FC Maci -MM-'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gelu Chivu helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to FC Buzău getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Gelu Chivu hit a great ball. In the 18th match minute, FC Buzău was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gelu Chivu to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mircea Marian in the 18th minute of play forced FC Buzău's goalkeeper Gheorghe Vărzaru to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gheorghe Vărzaru made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eugen Spoială in the 20th minute. In the 27th minute, Narcis Săndulescu made a precise shot to the right of Iurie Balotă. FC Maci -MM-'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. Iurie Balotă made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luca Inculeț in the 30th minute of play. 31 minutes into the game, Mircea Marian was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Maci -MM-'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Buzău the free kick. After a rather tough play, FC Maci -MM-'s Mircea Marian got a free kick in the 32nd minute. 35 minutes into the game, David Cismarescu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Iurie Balotă was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Iurie Balotă showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tudor Bosânceanu in the 38th minute of the match. 39 minutes into the game, Luca Inculeț cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Iurie Balotă was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a rather tough play, FC Buzău's Gelu Chivu got a free kick in the 42nd minute. With his leg Gheorghe Vărzaru managed to avoid a goal in the 45thth minute, when FC Maci -MM-'s Avram Terzian fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. A collision led to FC Buzău getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Gelu Chivu hit a great ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Avram Terzian to strike the kick off in the second half. 57 minutes into the game, FC Buzău's Luca Inculeț nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Iurie Balotă made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-4. Iurie Balotă stood somewhat misplaced when Narcis Săndulescu came free in front of goal and shot 2-5 to the left of him in the 60 minute. In the 63rdth minute of the game Alexandr Alehin who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Buzău's Gheorghe Vărzaru was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 73 minutes into the match, FC Maci -MM-'s goal looked a bit too open when Gelu Chivu came free, but Iurie Balotă reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eugen Spoială in the 75th minute of play forced FC Buzău's goalkeeper Gheorghe Vărzaru to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 76th minute, Horea Cutieru hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Costel Dorineanu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 77th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. FC Maci -MM-'s Iurie Balotă proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save FC Maci -MM- from getting a goal against them. 85 minutes into the game, Tudor Bosânceanu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-7. Iurie Balotă was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 89th minute Narcis Săndulescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iurie Balotă saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
