Irinel Merișor was slow to take the kick. During this time Club Atletico Huaco's players had a chance to rest. Irinel Merișor made a great header on Club Atletico Huaco's corner, it was just that Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel managed to reach the ball for a save. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hilario Platon in the 25th minute of play. After 27 played minutes Genk got a freekick which was hit by 邵泉林. 30 minutes into the game, Club Atletico Huaco's Hilario Platon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jannes Van Leempoel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 32 minutes into the match, Genk's goal looked a bit too open when Yoan Miloshev came free, but Jannes Van Leempoel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciriaco Urki in the 40th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Genk's Thomas-Jan Van de Weijer got a free kick in the 41st minute. In the 42nd minute of the match Ciriaco Urki sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jannes Van Leempoel skillfully saved the ball. 44 minutes into the game, Suat Kaya recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Lázaro Lucado. Suat Kaya showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Suat Kaya stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Baldomero Perez kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Jannes Van Leempoel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hilario Platon in the 57th minute of the match. When Irinel Merișor fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Atletico Huaco's protests and gave Irinel Merișor a yellow card for diving instead. Rain De Hond fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lázaro Lucado having to interfere. In the 70th minute Hilario Platon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Van Leempoel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
