Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Teobaldo Milian in the 6th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wellington Barbosa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Marquinhos Schmidt hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Club Atlético Atlanta's defense didn't have a chance, in the 9th minute, when Marquinhos Schmidt scored to the left of an out of position Aquiles Oihenarte, making the score, 1-0. After a rather tough play, Vasco FC's César de Godoi got a free kick in the 13th minute. The supporters of Club Atlético Atlanta booed when Vasco FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marquinhos Schmidt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pedro Rojelio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wellington Barbosa having to interfere. Aquiles Oihenarte made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Tiago Gabriel Mesquita sent off a good shot on target. Jonas Veloso was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 28th minute. Vasco FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Dedê Meireles blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Aquiles Oihenarte having to make a save. Wellington Barbosa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anacleto Admon, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 37th minute, Jonas Veloso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Valério Botelho's late challenge caught a Club Atlético Atlanta's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Valério Botelho helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 38th minute of the game. One of Vasco FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Club Atlético Atlanta:s goal. Gil Motta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Teobaldo Milian's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wellington Barbosa was relentless in the 47th minute of the game. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

After 54 played minutes Vasco FC got a freekick which was hit by Tiago Gabriel Mesquita. Jonas Veloso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aquiles Oihenarte having to interfere. Rene Luzea sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aquiles Oihenarte didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marquinhos Schmidt went, in the 70th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Teobaldo Milian received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Wellington Barbosa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 76th minute, Marquinhos Schmidt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A hard shot by Fabian Guter from long distance, 78 minutes into the match, got Wellington Barbosa's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Rojelio in the 79th minute of play forced Vasco FC's goalkeeper Wellington Barbosa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rene Luzea recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gil Motta in the 86th minute of play forced Club Atlético Atlanta's goalkeeper Aquiles Oihenarte to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Club Atlético Atlanta's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
