After a defensive mix-up in massïlia's zone, Valentine Corias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pavel Chivu came out of the goal and Valentine Corias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Murillo Kepa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hendrik van Eijnde having to interfere. With an all-out effort, Hincha Pelotas FC's Pavel Chivu threw himself towards the right post 14 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ismael Larrategui, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. A sloppy throw-in by León Onez in the 16th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by massïlia's Sidney Bessou. massïlia's Pavel Chivu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save massïlia from getting a goal against them. Pavel Chivu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ismael Larrategui's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. With an all-out effort, Hincha Pelotas FC's Pavel Chivu threw himself towards the right post 23 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ismael Larrategui, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Pavel Chivu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ismael Larrategui, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Alvarez Pierredonda was slow to take the kick. During this time Hincha Pelotas FC's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Alvarez Pierredonda almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but massïlia's Pavel Chivu did a great save. In the 42nd minute, Valentine Corias got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ismael Larrategui could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Pavel Chivu made a huge save. A hard shot 47 in the game by Ismael Larrategui from a close distance when the talented Pavel Chivu managed to make a qualified save. massïlia's players were relieved. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jochen Sommerhalder to make the kick off. When León Onez fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hincha Pelotas FC's protests and gave León Onez a yellow card for diving instead. León Onez hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Hendrik van Eijnde made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jochen Sommerhalder in the 62nd minute of play. Mathías Guevara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Pavel Chivu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jochen Sommerhalder's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Hendrik van Eijnde firmly grabbed it by the left post. Pavel Chivu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mathías Guevara in the 70th minute of play. After taking down the ball on Hincha Pelotas FC's corner Alvarez Pierredonda fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Pavel Chivu quite easily take care of the ball. In the 73rd minute Ismael Larrategui shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pavel Chivu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pavel Chivu came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by Hincha Pelotas FC's Ismael Larrategui. But to his dismay, Ismael Larrategui quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0.
