With a little luck, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Ramon Calvino got control of the ball when Rein Goethals tried to sneak it across the goal line. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Ramon Calvino proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save NEWELL´S OLD BOYS from getting a goal against them. That made the score 3-0 after 37 minutes of play. 41 minutes into the game, Jairo Formerio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave de belletrekkers the free kick. In the 41st minute, Jairo Formerio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Jairo Formerio got his second yellow card of the match in the 45th minute. The referee ordered Jairo Formerio off the ground. The supporters of de belletrekkers booed when NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and George Van Impe made a kick off. After a defensive mix-up in de belletrekkers's zone, Apolo Richie stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kristiaan Van de Velde came out of the goal and Apolo Richie tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS defense, Rein Goethals kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ramon Calvino. The NEWELL´S OLD BOYS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ramon Calvino should have stopped the shot. In the 59th minute, Rein Goethals left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The de belletrekkers fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-0. With an all-out effort, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Kristiaan Van de Velde threw himself towards the right post 64 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Apolo Richie, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After 65 minutes, Apolo Richie mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS and the de belletrekkers players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 69th minute of the match, Erasmo Millrick got a very nice opportunity to score, but Kristiaan Van de Velde was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Ramon Calvino didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from George Van Impe went, in the 72nd minute, to the upper right corner, 6-0 was the resulting score. After having played for 79 minutes, Rein Goethals managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. de belletrekkers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rein Goethals was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 82nd minute, Rein Goethals made a precise shot to the right of Ramon Calvino. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 7-0. A collision led to NEWELL´S OLD BOYS getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Rene Bernabel hit a great ball. Ramon Calvino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rein Goethals, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. The de belletrekkers fans' excitement grew in the 96th match minute when de belletrekkers's Rein Goethals looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 8-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. de belletrekkers had played much better football throughout.
