Armando Gaizkine had in the 9thth minute some difficulties stopping Apolo Richie's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Erasmo Millrick got free with Armando Gaizkine in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Iker Telesforo hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. A hard shot by Apolo Richie from long distance, 11 minutes into the match, got Armando Gaizkine's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Armando Gaizkine showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Apolo Richie, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. After 13 minutes, Iker Telesforo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Arsenal and the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS players grew even worse after the yellow card. Baltasar Rios kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. Ramon Calvino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Victorio Mino, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Arsenal's Victorio Mino got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ramon Calvino took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcelino Farias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 19th minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Apolo Richie ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Armando Gaizkine. Armando Gaizkine yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Salvador Luzea sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Teodoro Belarmo took the ball and in the 27 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ramon Calvino. Ramon Calvino dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. In the 33rd match minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Baltasar Rios to maneuver through the defense. In the 41st match minute, Arsenal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Iker Telesforo to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Arsenal's Armando Gaizkine got control of the ball when Erasmo Millrick tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 46th minute, Jairo Formerio reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Armando Gaizkine. The goal made the score 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Teodoro Belarmo made the kick off in the second half. Apolo Richie took the ball and in the 52 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Armando Gaizkine. Armando Gaizkine dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Ramon Calvino made a fantastic save in the 58th minute, when Teodoro Belarmo sent off a good shot on target. Arsenal's Armando Gaizkine played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Apolo Richie in the 60th minute of play. In the 61st minute, Iker Telesforo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 64 minutes into the match, Arsenal's goal looked a bit too open when Erasmo Millrick came free, but Armando Gaizkine reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 66 minutes into the match, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper Ramon Calvino had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Teodoro Belarmo. 70 minutes into the game, Erasmo Millrick was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Arsenal the free kick. The supporters of Arsenal booed when NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Erasmo Millrick didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ramon Calvino was out of position in the 72 minute of play, and Marcelino Farias capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Marcelino Farias really showed his touch with that goal: 4-2. 75 minutes into the match, Apolo Richie had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Armando Gaizkine. Arsenal's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Apolo Richie was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-2. In the 86th minute Apolo Richie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Armando Gaizkine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 86 minutes, Marcelino Farias mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Arsenal and the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of NEWELL´S OLD BOYS booed when Arsenal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matias Mon didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Jairo Formerio managed to get in a good position for a shot. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's supporters rose to their feet, but Jairo Formerio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Armando Gaizkine breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Ramon Calvino got control of the ball when Marcelino Farias tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Teodoro Belarmo could shoot a difficult shot in the 93rd minute, which Ramon Calvino however easily saved by the left post. If Jairo Formerio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 96th match minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Augusto Dei to maneuver through the defense.
