But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Venceslao Beite couldn't finish the play. Fabio Arrillaga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Valdo Catarinense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Júlio Eger's late challenge caught a West Town SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Júlio Eger helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to SORRISO E. C. getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Júlio Eger hit a great ball. 24 minutes into the game, Carlos Arantes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SORRISO E. C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave West Town SC the free kick. Carlos Arantes kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. In the 26th minute Johnny Posadas suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. Cláudio Couto kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. A hard shot by Guillermo Raiz from long distance, 28 minutes into the match, got Valdo Catarinense's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. West Town SC's Cain Blue got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, SORRISO E. C.'s Valdo Catarinense got control of the ball when Obi Blue tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to West Town SC getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Neicer Pesquera hit a great ball. After 33 played minutes, SORRISO E. C.'s Agostinho Pombal shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Ledesma Caicedo came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in SORRISO E. C. reached it. Obi Blue could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Valdo Catarinense made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in SORRISO E. C.'s zone, Obi Blue stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Valdo Catarinense came out of the goal and Obi Blue tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Obi Blue in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Valdo Catarinense saved SORRISO E. C. from getting behind. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
