The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ezequiel Melo charged in rather forcefully in the 2nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ezequiel Melo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Ezequiel Melo hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. After having played for 5 minutes, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ladislao Mazurkiewicz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 12th match minute, AF CERRADO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maicon Gonçalves to maneuver through the defense. In the 16th minute Komen Grama shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Severino Alcântara saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Severino Alcântara came out of the goal in the 17th minute to try and stop a shot by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Ladislao Mazurkiewicz. But to his dismay, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. If Leopoldo Sanches had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the game, Komen Grama cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Severino Alcântara was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 31 minutes, Komen Grama mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul and the AF CERRADO players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 31st minute, Komen Grama hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Komen Grama got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 36 minutes into the match, Leopoldo Sanches notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of AF CERRADO's Severino Alcântara. Severino Alcântara was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 39th minute Didi Gaúcho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gianluigi Donnarumma saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The long shot by Artur Sergipano in the 45th minute really tested Gianluigi Donnarumma's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Ezequiel Melo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gianluigi Donnarumma read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ladislao Mazurkiewicz to make the kick off. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 50th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 56th minute of the match AF CERRADO got a corner. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nestor Cordeiro ran over to the corner to take the kick. Severino Alcântara didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ladislao Mazurkiewicz went, in the 59th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-4 was the resulting score. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arí Motta in the 65th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gianluigi Donnarumma saved S.E.R. Caxias do Sul from getting behind. Gianluigi Donnarumma took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arí Motta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match clock showed 70 minutes, the score became 1-4 when Arí Motta sped through S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Gianluigi Donnarumma. Arí Motta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Gianluigi Donnarumma tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gianluigi Donnarumma took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arí Motta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz managed to get in a good position for a shot. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters rose to their feet, but Ladislao Mazurkiewicz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Severino Alcântara breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Komen Grama got a free kick in the 92nd minute. In the 95th minute, Túlio Negri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
