In the 14th minute of the match, Nico de Mendonça tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Frederico Smith saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Vivaldo Soeiro's late challenge caught a MINEIROS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vivaldo Soeiro helped the player get up and apologised. Ismael Mandrak charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ismael Mandrak the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Clube do Remo MZ's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave MINEIROS the free kick. MINEIROS's Serginho Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vivaldo Soeiro in the 58th minute of play. After 60 played minutes Clube do Remo MZ got a freekick which was hit by Gustavo Reis. Walmyr Dionísio hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. MINEIROS's Serginho Taffarel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save MINEIROS from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Clube do Remo MZ booed when MINEIROS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Naldo Baiano didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 85th minute Nando Leão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frederico Smith saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ricardinho Simão could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Serginho Taffarel made a huge save. Serginho Taffarel was a little too slow when Ricardinho Simão got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 93rd minute. The score was now 1-2. The Clube do Remo MZ supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Clube do Remo MZ would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
