Marcelinho Barral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Diego Maradona, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. 18 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Hulk Speed came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Saturnino Curcio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Marcelinho Barral made a huge save. 23 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Michel Haaland came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hulk Speed in the 66th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 67th minute, Matias Bilintx left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sporting de Gijón fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Marcelinho Barral stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matias Bilintx's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. 72 minutes had been played when some careless play by Roceira SC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Óscar Cordoba was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 88 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Marcelinho Barral narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 89th minute of the match Sporting de Gijón got a corner. Roceira SC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Matias Bilintx ran over to the corner to take the kick. 96 minutes into the match, Hulk Speed dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Óscar Cordoba, 1-2. Roceira SC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
