In the 21st minute Lucas Batliner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabio Santilli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alfons Telic showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ciro Buccella, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. 29 minutes into the game, Ciro Buccella cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. The supporters of U21 Italy booed when U21 Liechtenstein was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Andreas Fromm didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, U21 Liechtenstein's Dominik Ritter got a free kick in the 43rd minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ciro Buccella to make the kick off. Ciro Buccella was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 51st minute. U21 Italy's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 52nd match minute, U21 Liechtenstein was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mirko Brülisauer to maneuver through the defense. Alfons Telic didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ciro Buccella went, in the 53rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ciro Buccella got free with Alfons Telic in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Aldo Balzani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. U21 Liechtenstein's Markus Nef was substituted for Andreas Fromm. U21 Italy made a substitution. Cristoforo Grandis replaced Aldo Balzani. U21 Liechtenstein's Julien Marxer was substituted for Sandro Andersen. A throw-in in the 64th minute of the game was made by Ralph Zinsli with Julien Marxer as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. After a rather tough play, U21 Liechtenstein's Mirko Brülisauer got a free kick in the 65th minute. 67 minutes into the game, Ciro Buccella recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Alfons Telic. Ciro Buccella showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-4. Fortunato Brini hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Mirko Brülisauer kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. 82 minutes into the match, U21 Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Julien Marxer came free, but Fabio Santilli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fabio Santilli came out of the goal in the 84th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Liechtenstein's Lucas Batliner. But to his dismay, Lucas Batliner quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. Alfons Telic made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Ciro Buccella sent off a good shot on target.
