In the 6th match minute, Sporting Cristal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Delfino Rosario to maneuver through the defense. Fernanco Peso blasted a shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Xavies Berrez having to make a save. Xavies Berrez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernanco Peso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 21 minutes into the game, Universitario's Mon Postigo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jon Iruegas made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 32 minutes into the match, Universitario's goalkeeper Xavies Berrez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernanco Peso. Universitario's Xavies Berrez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernanco Peso in the 34th minute of play. If Fernanco Peso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Fernanco Peso made the kick off in the second half. Jon Iruegas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mon Postigo in the 58th minute. Fernanco Peso took the ball and in the 62 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Xavies Berrez. Xavies Berrez dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After 71 played minutes Sporting Cristal got a freekick which was hit by Cazimir Gogea. Sporting Cristal's Llorienzo Buenaga was substituted for Ludomil Kolba. In the 72nd minute, Cazimir Gogea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 76th minute of the game Ladislao Asur made a throw-in which Joachim Arana played forward. After a rather tough play, Universitario's 杜升强 got a free kick in the 93rd minute. 95 minutes in the game Ladislao Asur did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Joachim Arana. Sporting Cristal's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
