Irvin Willoughby dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Irvin Willoughby showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Maximilian Henning in the 13th minute of the match. Hurricanes FC's Irvin Willoughby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maximilian Henning in the 16th minute of play. With his leg August Hoffmanns managed to avoid a goal in the 20thth minute, when Hurricanes FC's 王亦俊 fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Hurricanes FC's Irvin Willoughby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tymoteusz Terasek in the 22nd minute of play. Rot-Weiss-Essen's August Hoffmanns proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 24th minute of the match, managed to save Rot-Weiss-Essen from getting a goal against them. August Hoffmanns stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of 王亦俊's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. Irvin Willoughby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maximilian Henning, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 36 minutes into the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen's goal looked a bit too open when Richarlison de Andrade came free, but August Hoffmanns reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Hurricanes FC defense, Mesut Özil kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Irvin Willoughby. The Hurricanes FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Irvin Willoughby should have stopped the shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Anestis Kotsopoulos to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Hurricanes FC's goal looked a bit too open when Anestis Kotsopoulos came free, but Irvin Willoughby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Richarlison de Andrade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 57 minutes, Mesut Özil took a quick shot and it went in 1-3 without a chance for Irvin Willoughby to make any attempt to save it. With a little luck, Hurricanes FC's Irvin Willoughby got control of the ball when Hugo Haupt tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Hurricanes FC's Romain Corcoran got a free kick in the 64th minute. Irvin Willoughby made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mesut Özil in the 65th minute of play. The supporters of Hurricanes FC booed when Rot-Weiss-Essen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugo Haupt didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 69th minute of the match Romain Corcoran sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but August Hoffmanns skillfully saved the ball. In the 70th minute Mesut Özil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Irvin Willoughby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hurricanes FC's Irvin Willoughby proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 71st minute of the match, managed to save Hurricanes FC from getting a goal against them. In the 73rd minute Maximilian Henning shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Irvin Willoughby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Mesut Özil managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rot-Weiss-Essen's supporters rose to their feet, but Mesut Özil was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Irvin Willoughby breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 86th minute, Mesut Özil left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. With a little luck, Hurricanes FC's Irvin Willoughby got control of the ball when Hugo Haupt tried to sneak it across the goal line. Saverio Niva's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but August Hoffmanns read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 92nd minute of play. In the 93rd minute 王亦俊 shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but August Hoffmanns saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 95 minutes into the match, 王亦俊 had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of August Hoffmanns. Rot-Weiss-Essen's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that 王亦俊 was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-4. Rot-Weiss-Essen's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
