An unexpectedly hard shot by Melquiades Morales in the 13th minute of play forced Pink Floyd's goalkeeper Fernando Gartxot to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 18 minutes into the game, Egoi Bermejo threw the ball into play from the sideline. Pink Floyd's Alvaro Innocenzio quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After 20 minutes of play, Universitario de deportes's Juanito Rosario made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fernando Gartxot was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 36 minutes of play, Universitario de deportes's Abel Figueres made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. After the first half Universitario de deportes were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Juanito Rosario got free with Fernando Gartxot in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Universitario de deportes's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
