Benito Licerio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 3rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fernandão de Amaral kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Vinícius Macedo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Primitivo Duarte in the 7th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benito Licerio in the 8th minute of play forced Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Vinícius Macedo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Elvio Ioritz during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 9th match minute, Independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Elvio Ioritz to maneuver through the defense. In the 14th minute, Eusébio Magalhães left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cruzeiro Esporte Clube fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Independiente's Severino Herena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eusébio Magalhães in the 22nd minute of play. If Primitivo Duarte had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Vinícius Macedo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Primitivo Duarte in the 23rd minute of the match. Severino Herena came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Fernandão de Amaral. But to his dismay, Fernandão de Amaral quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Marco Furtado charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Marco Furtado the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 29th minute, Marco Furtado hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vinícius Macedo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anastasio Iraitz in the 31st minute of the match. Independiente's Anastasio Iraitz got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 36 minutes, Adelino Simão mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube and the Independiente players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 35th minute of the game. One of Cruzeiro Esporte Clube:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Independiente:s goal. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube:s Vinícius Macedo showed great skill when he stopped Anastasio Iraitz:s penalty. Anastasio Iraitz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Primitivo Duarte came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Independiente fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Primitivo Duarte couldn't finish the play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Ian Abreu was substituted for Vicente Chaves. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube made a substitution. Renatinho Linhares replaced Chico de Brito. The wind increased when Renatinho Linhares made the kick off in the second half. Independiente's Severino Herena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Renatinho Linhares in the 54th minute of play. The supporters of Cruzeiro Esporte Clube booed when Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manuel Henry didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arnaldo Bide recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Independiente's zone, Ian Abreu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Severino Herena came out of the goal and Ian Abreu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Severino Herena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eusébio Magalhães in the 71st minute of play. Fernandão de Amaral fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Severino Herena having to interfere. In the 74th minute Renatinho Linhares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Severino Herena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Cruzeiro Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Fernandão de Amaral hit a great ball. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
