The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Charles Arantes might have been able to make a better finish in the 4th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alisson Taffarel. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Charles Arantes ran back to his position shaking his head. 4 minutes into the match, Portuguesa's Sidnei Faria sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alisson Taffarel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Pedro Augusto de Barros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 5th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 8th minute, Sidnei Faria got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alisson Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Charles Arantes in the 11th minute of the match. In the 14th minute, Eliseu Guerra left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Natingui FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Alisson Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Augusto de Barros, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by Natingui FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Yuri de Queiroz was slow to take the kick. During this time Portuguesa's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Yuri de Queiroz got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Alisson Taffarel quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Charles Arantes in the 33rd minute of play forced Natingui FC's goalkeeper Alisson Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Portuguesa fans' excitement grew in the 33rd match minute when Portuguesa's Charles Arantes looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Natingui FC's Alisson Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro Augusto de Barros in the 39th minute of play. Sidnei Faria recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 43rd match minute, Portuguesa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sidnei Faria to maneuver through the defense. Alisson Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Charles Arantes in the 48th minute of the match. The Natingui FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Portuguesa were winning 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Charles Arantes to make the kick off. Waldir Peixoto's late challenge caught a Portuguesa's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Waldir Peixoto helped the player get up and apologised. In the 54th minute, Waldir Peixoto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sidnei Faria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Alisson Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 57 minutes into the match, Pedro Augusto de Barros had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Alisson Taffarel. Natingui FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Pedro Augusto de Barros was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Pedro Augusto de Barros charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Pedro Augusto de Barros the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Natingui FC booed when Portuguesa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Augusto de Barros didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match had gone on for 65 minutes, Sidnei Faria took a quick shot and it went in 1-4 without a chance for Alisson Taffarel to make any attempt to save it. After a rather tough play, Natingui FC's Dida Catarinense got a free kick in the 67th minute. Yuri de Queiroz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 68th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Alisson Taffarel. Natingui FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Yuri Trigo hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. In the 74th minute, Eliseu Guerra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Natingui FC's Alisson Taffarel got control of the ball when Sidnei Faria tried to sneak it across the goal line. Alisson Taffarel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sidnei Faria's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. Alisson Taffarel made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Sidnei Faria sent off a good shot on target. Waldir Peixoto hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. In the 86th minute, Sidnei Faria hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Pedro Augusto de Barros could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Alisson Taffarel made a huge save. Natingui FC's Alisson Taffarel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save Natingui FC from getting a goal against them. In the 92nd minute Charles Arantes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alisson Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 93rd minute, Waldir Peixoto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match was over Portuguesa could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Natingui FC throughout the match.
