The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Willy Brown FC's goal looked a bit too open when Samuca Rezende came free, but Gualterio Federigo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hernani Sergipano might have been able to make a better finish in the 5th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gualterio Federigo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hernani Sergipano ran back to his position shaking his head. Gualterio Federigo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Samuca Rezende, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Grêmio 20 Julho booed when Willy Brown FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Denis Firman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rubinho Melo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zacarias Isusko in the 13th minute. Saverio Cloyo hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Grêmio 20 Julho's Fernando Capixaba tried to score from far away in the 18th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After 23 minutes of play, Grêmio 20 Julho's Oséas Souto made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gualterio Federigo was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Grêmio 20 Julho's Oséas Souto got a free kick in the 27th minute. After 29 played minutes Willy Brown FC got a freekick which was hit by Mario Frutos. Oséas Souto struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. Gualterio Federigo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio 20 Julho. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hernani Sergipano in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gualterio Federigo saved Willy Brown FC from getting behind. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

In the 52nd minute, Oséas Souto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Remigio Franco hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. When Felipe Breckenfeld fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Grêmio 20 Julho's protests and gave Felipe Breckenfeld a yellow card for diving instead. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Grêmio 20 Julho would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
