After 15 played minutes Melbourne 007 got a freekick which was hit by Brook Yard. With his leg Saul Etxeberri managed to avoid a goal in the 17thth minute, when Melbourne 007's Fleming Benton fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After some careless play in the Melbourne 007 defense, Marcial Bras kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jasmine Kuch. The Melbourne 007 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jasmine Kuch should have stopped the shot. 23 minutes into the game, Ben Bower was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Melbourne 007's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave San Fernando Eagles the free kick. Jasmine Kuch made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Remigio Arias in the 24th minute of play. Melbourne 007's Jasmine Kuch played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Santos Confesor in the 26th minute of play. After the first half San Fernando Eagles were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

San Fernando Eagles's Eustacio Perfecto was substituted for Santos Confesor. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fleming Benton stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Remigio Arias recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 61st match minute, San Fernando Eagles was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jairo Erramun to maneuver through the defense. Saul Etxeberri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fleming Benton in the 62nd minute of play. The supporters of Melbourne 007 booed when San Fernando Eagles was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jairo Erramun didn't get a good kick on the ball. Clark Connolly received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Saul Etxeberri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Saul Etxeberri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Clark Connolly, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 72 minutes, Remigio Arias mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the San Fernando Eagles and the Melbourne 007 players grew even worse after the yellow card.
