Potentia's goal looked a bit too open when Zeca Peres came free, but Naci Ünüvar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Roel Boeringe kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. Naci Ünüvar acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 6th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Egídio Furtado. Cleiton Freire fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Naci Ünüvar having to interfere. Egídio Furtado charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Egídio Furtado the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 20th minute, Egídio Furtado hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Cleiton Freire came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cleiton Freire couldn't finish the play. Egídio Furtado kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. With an all-out effort, E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's Naci Ünüvar threw himself towards the right post 31 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Cleiton Freire, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Luís Fábio Bittencourt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jan Mathijsen, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. 38 minutes had been played when some careless play by E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Timo van Persie was slow to take the kick. During this time S.C. Potentia's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Timo van Persie got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Luís Fábio Bittencourt quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. A collision led to S.C. Potentia getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Jan Mathijsen hit a great ball. In the 45th minute Zeca Peres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Naci Ünüvar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 46th minute, Roel Boeringe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When Hans Jochemsen fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored S.C. Potentia's protests and gave Hans Jochemsen a yellow card for diving instead. 55 minutes into the match, S.C. Potentia's goal looked a bit too open when Zeca Peres came free, but Naci Ünüvar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 60th minute Erivaldo Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Naci Ünüvar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Naci Ünüvar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zeca Peres, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. 68 minutes into the match, Roel Boeringe had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luís Fábio Bittencourt. E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Roel Boeringe was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. A collision led to S.C. Potentia getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Gerald Vanenburg hit a great ball. In the 74th minute, Joris Pothuizen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nando Coutinho kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Hans Jochemsen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 81st minute Cleiton Freire shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Naci Ünüvar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 91st minute Hans Jochemsen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fábio Bittencourt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
