In the 21st minute Toninho Alagoano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donato Madonna saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Nilton Couto fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's protests and gave Nilton Couto a yellow card for diving instead. In the 25th match minute, CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nilton Couto to maneuver through the defense. CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by César Cardozo in the 33rd minute. Doriva Simões came out of the goal and Fabio Cavaliere tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ernesto Margoni hit a great ball. Donato Madonna made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from César Cardozo in the 47th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ciccio Ruggieri to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's zone, Ciccio Ruggieri stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doriva Simões came out of the goal and Ciccio Ruggieri tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 54th minute, Ernesto Margoni hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 56 minutes into the match, Kroton F.C.'s goalkeeper Donato Madonna had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Pedro Luiz Queirós. After a rather tough play, CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's Eduardo Duarte got a free kick in the 56th minute. CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's Fabrício Miranda was substituted for Ediberto Azevedo. After 74 played minutes CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ got a freekick which was hit by Bruno Paes. A collision led to Kroton F.C. getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Ernesto Margoni hit a great ball. César Cardozo's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Donato Madonna firmly grabbed it by the left post. 81 minutes into the match, César Cardozo notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Kroton F.C.'s Donato Madonna. Donato Madonna was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Nilton Couto got his second yellow card in the match during the 84th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 92 played minutes Abel Matorin rounded Kroton F.C.'s defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-3. CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's César Cardozo got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
