The audience thought a goal was coming when Bengt Blixt got free with George Kristiansson in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hartlepool's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Hasan Hüseyin Orak in the 19th minute. The corner led Hartlepool's Ralf Rask to a score. 1-0 in the 19th minute. Sten Melberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. George Kristiansson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf Rask in the 26th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Charlie Jansson was the one to do the kick off. Di Röe's Knut Engström was substituted for Elliot Kellbom. Di Röe's Arnaldo da Fonseca was substituted for Sten Melberg. The corner led Di Röe's Herman Benett to fire away a dangerous shot which Åke Stål despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 67th minute Ralf Rask shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Kristiansson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 69thth minute of the game Arnaldo da Fonseca who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hartlepool's Åke Stål was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Tomas Tapper's late challenge caught a Di Röe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tomas Tapper helped the player get up and apologised. In the 69th match minute, Hartlepool was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tomas Tapper to maneuver through the defense. George Kristiansson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Charlie Jansson in the 72nd minute of the match. Di Röe's George Kristiansson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hasan Hüseyin Orak in the 76th minute of play. The supporters of Di Röe booed when Hartlepool was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. After 91 minutes, Malte Hedström mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Di Röe and the Hartlepool players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 92nd minute, Malte Hedström hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. For all the effort they put into the match, the Di Röe players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Hartlepool.
