The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 10 minutes of play, GRÊMIO's Gildo Linares made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Matheus Donelli was left in no man's land by his defense there! A collision led to GRÊMIO getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Artur Cunha hit a great ball. In the 18th minute, Bernardinho Cunha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Matheus Donelli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Artur Cunha in the 22nd minute of play. With a little luck, GRÊMIO's Nestor Sampaio got control of the ball when Bernardinho Cunha tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nestor Sampaio was out of position in the 38 minute of play, and Ángel Romero capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Ángel Romero really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. In the 44th minute, Ángel Romero made a precise shot to the right of Nestor Sampaio. The GRÊMIO fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nestor Sampaio should have stopped the shot. When the match had gone on for 67 minutes, Afonsinho Medeiros put it in 6-1 from a short distance just to the right of Nestor Sampaio.
