Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Eduardo Navariega made the kick off which started today's match. Cuenca S.C's Guillermo Pontones played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gualterio Aguirre in the 3rd minute of play. Armando Alamea fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Amadeo Roma having to interfere. Urdaspal Monasterio hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Cortez Gill made in the 7th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Jairo Berastegui. After 21 played minutes Cuenca S.C got a freekick which was hit by Xulio Arvelo. Guillermo Pontones showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gualterio Aguirre, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Armando Alamea kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. 42 minutes into the match, Cuenca S.C's goalkeeper Guillermo Pontones had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rene Harman. After some careless play in the Deportivo Rodriguez defense, Eduardo Navariega kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Amadeo Roma. The Deportivo Rodriguez fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Amadeo Roma should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.
Deportivo Rodriguez's Ezra Shepard was substituted for Willie Staton. Valentim Leão struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Guillermo Pontones didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Deportivo Rodriguez. In the 57th minute, Gualterio Aguirre left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Deportivo Rodriguez fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. After 61 played minutes Cuenca S.C got a freekick which was hit by Xulio Arvelo. Guillermo Pontones made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valentim Leão in the 62nd minute of play. The supporters of Cuenca S.C booed when Deportivo Rodriguez was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rúben Verdun didn't get a good kick on the ball. Deportivo Rodriguez's Amadeo Roma played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cortez Gill in the 64th minute of play. A collision led to Deportivo Rodriguez getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Marcelo-Luis Butcher hit a great ball. In the 69th minute Gualterio Aguirre shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guillermo Pontones saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 73 minutes Cuenca S.C's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Rúben Verdun who took care of the corner kick. With a little luck, Deportivo Rodriguez's Amadeo Roma got control of the ball when Xulio Arvelo tried to sneak it across the goal line. 80 minutes into the match, Cuenca S.C's goal looked a bit too open when Gualterio Aguirre came free, but Guillermo Pontones reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Guillermo Pontones made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gualterio Aguirre in the 83rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Latorre in the 84th minute of play forced Cuenca S.C's goalkeeper Guillermo Pontones to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 91st minute of the match Deportivo Rodriguez got a corner. Cuenca S.C's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Rúben Verdun ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Rúben Verdun got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Guillermo Pontones quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Xulio Arvelo's late challenge caught a Deportivo Rodriguez's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Xulio Arvelo helped the player get up and apologised. Gualterio Aguirre sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Deportivo Rodriguez had played much better football throughout.
