When the match clock showed 4 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Ludomil Kolba sped through Deportivo Popolizio FBC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Hermann Hesse. Cleto Trasagua got a throw-in 20 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Bartolo Basualdo. Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bartolo Basualdo in the 22nd minute of play. Cris Ronaldo hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. A hard shot by Gertjan De Ryck from long distance, 25 minutes into the match, got Hermann Hesse's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bartolo Basualdo in the 28th minute of play forced Sporting Cristal's goalkeeper Jon Iruegas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hermann Hesse took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hüseyin Turan Elçibey, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 40th minute Fernanco Peso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hermann Hesse saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cleto Trasagua hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Deportivo Popolizio FBC's Hermann Hesse got control of the ball when Fernanco Peso tried to sneak it across the goal line. Deportivo Popolizio FBC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 47th minute, when Fernanco Peso scored to the left of an out of position Hermann Hesse, making the score, 2-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bartolo Basualdo to make the kick off. Hermann Hesse showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernanco Peso, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Jon Iruegas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bartolo Basualdo in the 75th minute of the match. After 76 played minutes Sporting Cristal got a freekick which was hit by Hüseyin Turan Elçibey. Sporting Cristal made a substitution. Christian Luciano replaced Fernanco Peso. Sporting Cristal's Llorienzo Buenaga was substituted for Ludomil Kolba. Deportivo Popolizio FBC's Erruki Velarroa was substituted for Bartolo Basualdo. After a rather tough play, Sporting Cristal's Hüseyin Turan Elçibey got a free kick in the 78th minute. A collision led to Sporting Cristal getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Cazimir Gogea hit a great ball. With a little luck, Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas got control of the ball when Joao Montanez tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jon Iruegas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erruki Velarroa in the 89th minute of play. Tibor Nyilasi took the ball and in the 91 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jon Iruegas. Jon Iruegas dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Jon Iruegas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joao Montanez, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. In the 97th minute of the match Deportivo Popolizio FBC got a corner. Sporting Cristal's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Cris Ronaldo ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Deportivo Popolizio FBC's corner Cris Ronaldo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jon Iruegas quite easily take care of the ball.
