An unexpectedly hard shot by Herbert Pankowski in the 4th minute of play forced Villaverde Celeste Clube's goalkeeper Nenko Reza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Paulo Godoi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 7th match minute, Palestra do Interior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eugênio Alagoano to maneuver through the defense. 12 minutes into the match, Villaverde Celeste Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Godoi came free, but Nenko Reza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 12th minute, Zeledon Vachon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ernani Velasco got a throw-in 17 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Evripidis Picoulas. Nenko Reza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vitório Lago in the 24th minute of play. Allan Varela made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Eduardo Angulo sent off a good shot on target. In the 34th minute Vitório Lago shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nenko Reza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 38 minutes into the match, Villaverde Celeste Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Godoi came free, but Nenko Reza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

51 minutes into the match, Villaverde Celeste Clube's Roy Makaay sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Allan Varela narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Palestra do Interior getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Boyisana Mnisi hit a great ball. In the 62nd match minute, Palestra do Interior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Boyisana Mnisi to maneuver through the defense. Evripidis Picoulas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Villaverde Celeste Clube's Eduardo Angulo got a free kick in the 67th minute. 69 minutes into the match, Villaverde Celeste Clube's goalkeeper Nenko Reza had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Paulo Godoi. Villaverde Celeste Clube's Eduardo Angulo got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Villaverde Celeste Clube's Kıraç Uskan was substituted for Roy Makaay. Villaverde Celeste Clube's attentive Nicolai Otamendi managed to snatch the ball when Jorginho Ferreira made a throw-in in the 73rd minute of the game. 82 minutes into the match, Percival Cruz dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Nenko Reza, 1-1. Villaverde Celeste Clube's Eduardo Angulo managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Eugênio Alagoano in the 85 minute of the game. Allan Varela showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kıraç Uskan, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Percival Cruz who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 91stth minute tested the skills of Nenko Reza when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Villaverde Celeste Clube succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Palestra do Interior had controlled the match.
