The referee ignored Capivara FC's protests and gave Glauco Aparecido a yellow card for diving instead. Glauco Aparecido kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. Leopoldo Sanches's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 23rdth minute, Lúcio Domingues skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Gianluigi Donnarumma showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luciano Pereira in the 25th minute of the match. A collision led to S.E.R. Caxias do Sul getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Luizão Prata hit a great ball. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edvaldo Leal in the 29th minute of play. Leopoldo Sanches recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 45th match minute, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luizão Prata to maneuver through the defense. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Caxias do Sul's Túlio Negri was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Capivara FC booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Túlio Negri didn't get a good kick on the ball.
