After 15 minutes, Francisco Berrueta mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Freshwater and the Banditos players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 15 played minutes Freshwater got a freekick which was hit by Francisco Berrueta. Eliseo Díaz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Ladislao Ulloa made a huge save. 22 minutes into the match, Freshwater's goal looked a bit too open when Salvador Navarro came free, but Ladislao Ulloa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Adolfo Guerra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Freshwater's Leopoldo Parada got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Freshwater's Edwin Navas got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some careless play in the Banditos defense, Leopoldo Parada kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eraldo Salazar. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Armando Rodriguez's late challenge caught a Freshwater's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eraldo Salazar made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Cesar Jimenez sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Banditos's Adolfo Guerra got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Andrés Mejia lost his temper 71 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Freshwater's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
