The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nestor Lertxun's late challenge caught a ATLETICO MENDOZA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. With a little luck, Martin Palermo F.C.'s Teodoro Eladio got control of the ball when Edgardo Estebano tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 16th minute, Celso Frutos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Natalio Gerazan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Isaac Perrando, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Edgardo Estebano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Teodoro Eladio made a huge save. The supporters of ATLETICO MENDOZA booed when Martin Palermo F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Baldomiro Quintin didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Martin Palermo F.C.'s goalkeeper Teodoro Eladio, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. But to his dismay, Isaac Perrando quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Teodoro Eladio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Claudio Eudoxio, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. In the 66th match minute, Martin Palermo F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Celso Frutos to maneuver through the defense. 70 minutes into the match, Martin Palermo F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Luisito Tono came free, but Teodoro Eladio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Natalio Gerazan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Isaac Perrando, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. Isaac Perrando charged in rather forcefully in the 86th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Isaac Perrando the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 86 played minutes Martin Palermo F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Isaac Perrando. 87 minutes into the match, Edgardo Estebano notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Martin Palermo F.C.'s Teodoro Eladio. Teodoro Eladio was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Martin Palermo F.C.'s Teodoro Eladio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fausto Benino in the 97th minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the Martin Palermo F.C. players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for ATLETICO MENDOZA.
