Simon Svanström hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. After having played for 15 minutes, Per Nørbjerg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hønning's supporters crossed their fingers, but Per Nørbjerg was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Pompiliu Roşculeţ came free with the goalkeeper in the 21st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Dirch Glerum could save by the left post. Pompiliu Roşculeţ made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 22ndth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Dirch Glerum would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. A hard shot 22 in the game by Pompiliu Roşculeţ from a close distance when the talented Dirch Glerum managed to make a qualified save. Hønning's players were relieved. Volker Harm took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from John-Arne Riise, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 23rd minute, John-Arne Riise left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hønning fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Volker Harm showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John-Arne Riise in the 30th minute of the match. Hønning's Tiago Silva was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Volker Harm in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 33 played minutes Hønning got a freekick which was hit by Simon Svanström. If John-Arne Riise had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dirch Glerum made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laurențiu Cinteză in the 39th minute of play. In the 45th match minute, Hønning was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tiago Silva to maneuver through the defense. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Pompiliu Roşculeţ made the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the game, FC Hamburg's Pompiliu Roşculeţ nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dirch Glerum made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. A collision led to Hønning getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Betinho Beton hit a great ball. In the 59th minute, Pompiliu Roşculeţ got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Laurids Hvenekilde during the 64th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The FC Hamburg fans' excitement grew in the 66th match minute when FC Hamburg's Laurențiu Cinteză looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 91st minute, Eduard Hilpert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Laurids Hvenekilde was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 91st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Hønning's Dirch Glerum played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Richard Otte in the 95th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, FC Hamburg could leave the field as winners, despite Hønning having more of the ball for most of the match.
